Book Club!

When I said I am leaving my comfort zone and trying new things this year, I figured step one was joining and participating in a book club. The book club I belong to only has 5 total members, but I will be honest. I enjoy the intimacy of it.   It was an incredibly eye-opening experience. So often, I would read a book, and analyze how it makes me feel, but to hear how another person who read the same novel had such a different take on it was truly interesting.  I am just like a lot of other people who will go check out reviews on Amazon to see what others thought about a book, but to actually listen to others and their feelings about it seem more personable.

When we began discussing, we spook about parts in the story that stood out to us or how we personally related to them. As the conversation grew and went in different directions, I was able to reevaluate the book and see how the exact same words I read were taken so differently by the other people. I liked the book, but to be honest, I would never have read it if it was not part of a book club. More times than not, I enjoy a light read to take me away from the stress of everyday life.

After reading Where the Crawdads Sing, By Delia Owens, I would recommend it to anyone who would enjoy a book that forces you to think, not just about how people treat each other, but also the importance of preserving nature.
